Partnering for a Prosperous Future

Georgia's natural and cultural resource heritage defines the state's economy and lifestyle, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is the steward of that heritage. As Gov. Sonny Perdue stated, "If you take care of the land, the land will take care of you." The DNR strategic planning process provides a framework for the stewardship and management of the state's resources for current and future generations of Georgians.

It is DNR's intent that the strategic planning process be forward-looking, proactive and effective. The planning effort is a thorough and wide-reaching process involving members of the Board of Natural Resources’ Strategic Planning Committee, DNR leadership and staff, and facilitators from the University of Georgia Fanning Institute. Plan development includes a significant amount of public involvement and takes into account the priorities and perspectives of the citizens of Georgia. DNR conducted extensive customer surveys to gather opinions from a broad cross-section of people throughout the state.

The planning process will result in a comprehensive department-level plan that will provide the goals, objectives and strategies to guide the development and implementation of division-level strategic and operational plans beginning in fiscal year 2008.

The DNR vision and mission statements developed by the DNR Board are guiding the strategic planning teams' efforts during this development process. The end product will be a dynamic document for DNR associates and the public that provides a vision and strategy for achieving an environmentally and economically sustainable Georgia.
