In the Fernbank Museum's First Georgians exhibit, which focuses on the chiefdoms of the late prehistoric period (C.E. 900-1540), you can explore some of Georgia's prehistoric human inhabitants. The exhibition details the various cultures of this period throughout the entire range of Native American occupation within the state.
A collection of artifacts drawn from each of the major cultural periods in Georgia's human past (Paleo-Indian, Archaic, Woodland, Mississippi and Historic) accompanies a timeline that serves as a point of reference for discussions of political structure, subsistence and settlement patterns of Georgia's indigenous societies.
